Peer Review Process

Zabags International Journal of Islamic Studies implements a rigorous, transparent, and ethical peer-review process to ensure the publication of high-quality scholarly articles. The journal follows internationally recognized standards in academic publishing and research integrity.

ZIJIS applies a double-blind peer-review system, where the identities of authors and reviewers are kept confidential throughout the review process to ensure objectivity and fairness.

Step-by-Step Peer Review Process:

Step 1: Manuscript Submission

Authors submit their manuscripts electronically through the official ZIJIS online submission system. All submissions must comply with the journal’s author guidelines and ethical standards.

Step 2: Initial Editorial Screening

The Editor-in-Chief or an assigned Section Editor conducts an initial evaluation to assess:

- Relevance to the journal’s focus and scope
- Originality and academic contribution
- Compliance with formatting and submission requirements
- Ethical considerations, including plagiarism screening

Manuscripts that do not meet these criteria may be rejected at this stage.

Step 3: Reviewer Assignment

Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are assigned to at least two independent reviewers who have relevant expertise in the manuscript’s subject area. Reviewers are selected based on their academic background, research experience, and publication record.

Step 4: Double-Blind Peer Review

Reviewers evaluate the manuscript independently under the double-blind system. The assessment focuses on:

- Scientific quality and methodological rigor
- Validity and reliability of data and analysis
- Originality and significance of findings
- Clarity of presentation and academic writing

Reviewers provide constructive comments and recommendations.

Step 5: Editorial Decision

Based on the reviewers’ reports, the Editor makes one of the following decisions:

- Accept without revision
- Accept with minor revisions
- Major revisions required
- Reject

The decision and anonymized reviewer comments are communicated to the authors.

Step 6: Manuscript Revision

Authors are required to revise their manuscripts according to the reviewers’ comments and submit a revised version within the specified timeframe. A response to reviewers’ comments may be requested.

Step 7: Re-Review (If Required)

Revised manuscripts, particularly those requiring major revisions, may be sent back to the original reviewers to ensure that all concerns have been adequately addressed.

Step 8: Final Decision

The Editor-in-Chief makes the final decision regarding acceptance or rejection, taking into account the reviewers’ recommendations, the revised manuscript, and overall scholarly quality.

Step 9: Copyediting and Publication

Accepted manuscripts undergo copyediting, proofreading, and layout editing before being published online. All published articles are made freely accessible under the journal’s open-access policy.

Through this structured peer-review process, ZIJIS ensures the integrity, credibility, and academic excellence of all published works while supporting the global dissemination of Islamic Studies research.
